Corn Crib Nursery and Garden Center is located in Coal Valley, and has been a part of the Quad
Cities since 1972 when it was established by George and Gwen White. The
nursery and garden center began as an Open Air Market, selling fresh fruits and vegetables,
along with 60 acres of sod and 30 acres of “pick-your-own” strawberries. The
original nursery building was fashioned from an actual corncrib that had
long been on the family farm in the Quad Cities. Hence, the name “Corn Crib
Market” was chosen. It was the perfect description for the business during
the 70’s.
As the business grew and evolved, so did the name, eventually becoming Corn Crib Nursery. The corncrib was replaced with a store boasting 6400 square feet of retail space. Greenhouses were also added, totaling our current growing space to 28,000 square feet.
What began as a small family business run by George, Gwen and the kids, has become one of the Quad Cities’ leading growers and suppliers of premium flowers, container gardens, bedding and vegetable plants, and perennials! The nursery is also one of the largest in the area, specializing in unusual and unique nursery stock, which is hardy for this area, but not readily available at other local garden centers.
Corn Crib Nursery remains a family business, owned and operated by Duane and Ken White. The quality of the plants and service to their customers is a direct reflection on them, and they take their customers’ satisfaction very seriously! Many of their employees have been with the business so long that they are “like family” and they too, are just as committed to growing the best plants possible!
